Appendicitis:

The appendix is a remnant of the large bowel from former days when we were herbivores. In animals such as the rabbit it is fully developed and enables the animal to digest the grass and foliage it eats.
Its origin is located on the caecum in a fairly constant position, however, the tip is free to lie in a variety of positions which can cause a host of symptoms when inflamed.

Appendix

Approximately 10% of the population will develop appendicitis during their lifetime.
Even with modern medical methods appendicitis can be a very difficult diagnosis to make preoperatively.
