Appendicitis:

Appendicitis is a relatively common surgical condition.
Approximately 10% of the population will develop appendicitis during their lifetime.
Even with modern medical methods appendicitis can be a very difficult diagnosis to make preoperatively.

Prompt diagnosis and treatment is required for this condition as it is a cause of peritonitis.
Delays in diagnosis and treatment are associated with increased rates of complications and even death.

It is generally considered a condition of childhood or adolescence, although, it may present at any age in any patient.

The diagnosis of "grumbling appendix" is one that is difficult to support, although, repeated attacks of mild appendicitis may occur.
