Obesity:

The effects of surgery are dramatic:

Diabetes - Around 75% of patients with diabetes found their condition completely recovered following surgery.
As the weight declines the diabetic tendency declines also, along with the potential for complications.

Obesity related conditions - Cholesterol levels have been found to decline after surgery.
High blood pressure appears to be controlled.
Sleep apnoea is improved.
The likelihood of surviving the next five years is increased: 6% without the operation had died within 5 years compared with 1% who had had surgery.

Weight loss - Surgery offers the only realistic possibility of sustained weight loss.
Approximately 60% of the starting weight can be lost following surgery. Whilst it is possible to regain some of the weight it is unlikely that will be a significant proportion
